WHY CREATIVITY COUNTS

A NEW WORLD REQUIRES A NEW LEVEL OF THINKING

Business is not the same as it used to be. In the old world, there was one correct answer and employees needed to get to it quickly. The focus was on streamlining and efficiency - convergent-type thinking. In the new world, everything is changing so fast that there is no 'one' answer. People need to take time to find new solutions. We need to think creatively. We need divergent and associative thinking. Workforces are getting stuck, because our industrial-revolution style schooling didn't train us to think flexibily enough and with imagination. We'd rather wait for our manager to tell us what to do. Now even the managers are stuck.

CREATIVITY CAN BE TAUGHT

Creativity is a mindset and a skillset that can be developed like any muscle. Creativity or creative intelligence, is not magic, it's not artistry and it's not a talent that you have to be born with. With guidance and prompting, anyone can set their minds to developing their creativity. Although a mindset shift can happen in a moment, creativity, like fitness, should be developed and maintained throughtout one's life.

PRIORITISING INNOVATION TODAY IS THE KEY TO UNLOCKING POSTCRISIS GROWTH

Studies have shown how companies that invest in innovation during a crisis, recover quicker and outperform their competitors when the crisis is over. 84% of executives think innovation is important to growth strategy, yet 6% are satisfied with their innovation performance.

CREATIVITY IS GOOD FOR BUSINESS

A business that invests in creativity is more likely to foster innovation, have more satisfied customers, be competitive, provide a better customer experience and be financially successful. Interestingly, though 60% of CEOs in an IBM study said that creativity is the most important quality in employees, only 3 out of 10 people feel that they are living up to their creative potential.

IF INNOVATION IS THE GAME ON FIELD,

THEN CREATIVITY IS EACH PLAYER'S PHYSICAL FITNESS.

If innovation is the game on the field, then creativity is each player's physical fitness

ARE YOUR PEOPLE CREATIVE ENOUGH TO TAKE ON THE COMING DECADE?

These may be signs that they are not :

  • Lack of curiosity - few questions asked, people keep doing exactly what they've always done
  • People 'staying in their lanes' not connecting or collaborating with other funcational or regional areas
  • Hardly any humour or laughter comes out of the team
  • There is no tolerance of mistakes, an over-emphasis on high performance with zero failure
  • No learning offered to develop creative intelligence
  • Brainstorming sessions run out of steam after the first 5 minutes
  • People are reluctant to share ideas for fear of being shot down or looking foolish
  • Low interest in learning and development, team does not read much
  • No process for exploring new ideas
  • No strategy, targets or goals for innovation

WE'LL HELP YOU BUILD FOR THE FUTURE

Our passion and purpose is to foster robust creative thinking in individuals, leaders and teams. We believe that there's little more powerful on earth than a fully charged creative mind and that creativity is an essential building block for organisations of the future.

WHAT WE DO

HOW WE WORK

We're seeing many organisations in need of developing creativity and innovation. It all starts with a shift in mindset - an understanding of what creative intelligence is, the importance of creativity in the workplace and how the neuroscience behind our creativity  works. It's important for senior leadership to understand these concepts so that they are not only ready to support creative growth, but also to role model it themselves. Since the Human Resources function is tasked with managing (not owing) the levers behind corporate culture, it's vital that this group is empowered and equipped with the mindset and skillset to drive this culture transformation together with senior leadership.

"The training was fantastic.

Everybody loved it. Some people in the beginning were not that keen but in the end they were all involved and giving their ideas. It was a great experience over all. I think going forward the company is going to really benefit from this." (Team development workshop)

Thank you for an amazing workshop today. I got more than I anticipated. It was fun, interactive, informative, creative… Thank you for the wonderful ideas as well. This was one of the most exciting and unique workshops I’ve ever attended.

LAUREN VICKERY

Marketing Director, Sage

As a manager, what I need to do is make sure that we facilitate this kind of thinking, engagement and way of working, because that is what is going to make our team great.

NKOSINI NGWENYA

Senior researcher, University of JHB

Thank you for such a wonderful course. I have thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it. For months I have struggled finding motivation to work on my doctorate and thanks to this course I realise now that I have allowed a lot of bad habits and procrastinating to put me off my studies. Now that my creativity has awoken, I am excited and cannot wait to get going again. Thank you for arming me with so much positivity!

ANGEL JONES

CEO, Homecoming Revolution

As a business owner, in an industry that is quite well established, I think that we have to be creative otherwise we are going to fall behind. There is a responsibility on me to innovate with my team.  My team had some great aha moments on the workshop.  We quite quickly found proper tangible ways to implement the tools.  We’ve found definite ways of using what we’ve discovered today in our business to improve it.

"Most of us understand that innovation is enormously important.

It's the only insurance against irrelevance.

It's the only guarantee of long-term customer loyalty.

It's the only strategy for out-performing a dismal economy."
