Gear up and show 2021 what you're made of

motivation Jan 14, 2021

2020 was a sand-paper kind of year

Tha past year was a rough experience but one that made us look at what is beneath our top layers - in every sphere of our lives. It was a character-building year that toughened us up, whilst also somehow simultaneously softening us on the inside with gratitude for what we have.

I love this quote by the brilliant author Arundhati Roy about the pandemic that hit us in 2020.

Whatever it is, coronavirus has made the mighty kneel and brought the world to a halt like nothing else could.

Our minds are still racing back and forth, longing for a return to “normality”, trying to stitch our future to our past and refusing to acknowledge the rupture. But the rupture exists. And in the midst of this terrible despair, it offers us a chance to rethink the doomsday machine we have built for ourselves.

Nothing could be worse than a return to normality.

Historically, pandemics have forced humans to break with the past and imagine their world anew. This one is no different. It is a portal, a gateway between one world and the next.

We can choose to walk through it, dragging the carcasses of our prejudice and hatred, our avarice, our data banks and dead ideas, our dead rivers and smoky skies behind us.

Or we can walk through lightly, with little luggage, ready to imagine another world. And ready to fight for it.’

I prefer the idea of imagining another world.

Which leads me on to 2021...

Remember the power of your creativity

As you face 2021, which will no doubt have challenges and adventures of its own, I want to remind you of the immense power of your creativity. Take heart because you are, naturally, a creative being. Even if you don't feel it right now and the year ahead looks daunting, your true nature is to be creative.

I encourage you to continue exploring and opening yourself up to your creativity. As you do, you will begin to see possibility, find solutions, become more adaptable and be bolder in bringing your true self to the fore and your unique contribution to your family, your business and the world.

Time is short

Nope, we're also being reminded a lot lately, that we should not be taking our lives for granted. Life is not a dress rehearsal. We are but a vapour.

So with the time we have, let's be braver and bolder. Let's break away from those fearful, anxious voices in our head and let's go for it. Coco Chanel put it rather abruptly:

"There is no time for cut-and-dried monotony. There is time for work. And time for love. That leaves no other time." Coco Chanel

So,  gear up and show this year what you are made of. Strong stuff!
